FREE Injury Prevention Workshop

When: Wednesday, April 22, 6-6:45pm

Where: Charlie’s Queer Books in Fremont

Join us for an injury prevention workshop hosted by licensed physical therapist Serra Shelton of New Growth Physical Therapy. There will be a short presentation explaining how soft tissue responds to and remodels under stress to help you understand your body's healing process, followed by instruction of a body scan to engage your major stabilizing muscles and a discussion of how to train effectively to reduce your chance of injury. This workshop is designed for folks who want to try a new activity, are getting back to an activity after some time away, want to increase the amount of activity they already do, or feel like they're the type of person who is always getting injured! The material is designed to be approachable for all body types and all levels of athleticism, and the body scan can be performed seated or standing.

About the host: Serra Shelton (she/her) is a queer cisgender white woman who earned her doctorate of physical therapy from University of Washington. She specializes in pelvic floor physical therapy and enjoys working with members of her LGBTQIA+ community on pelvic health-related issues. Serra also enjoys dancing, particularly queer line dancing, and has additional clinical experience working with dance injuries, fibromyalgia, and Ehler-Danlos hypermobility.
